About
Our Mission
We are a collective of mental health professionals in Georgia who are passionate about serving the Latinx community. We are committed to supporting Latinx clinicians of any gender, clinical orientation, or level of study as they navigate the various challenges of our helping profession. We believe in embracing the cultural wisdom and practices from our community: "La Cultura, Cura."

The Goals of our Collective is Tri-fold:
Community & Support: We strive to cultivate a sense of connection and belonging with other Latinx mental health professionals through the creation of community. We encourage and support one another through meaningful engagement both online and face to face.
Healing & Social Justice: We seek to advance healing and social justice through advocating and empowering members of the Latinx communities that are impacted by mental illness. We encourage social justice practices that protect the rights and the safety of our community. We support the personal healing and promote the collective healing that occurs through connection and community.
Culturally-Responsive Mental Health Services: We advocate for the provision culturally-responsive mental health services for Latinx. We honor the cultural practices, traditions, and creativity that have enabled our Latinx communities to overcome oppression and build resilience.

Diversity & Inclusion Statement
This group strives to be an inclusive community that is affirming of diversity and honors our complex histories and lineage. We acknowledge that our Latinx community is expansive, diverse and rich with culture and heritage. We have a multitude of ways that we name and conceptualize our identities. As such, we are committed to respecting each person’s right to self-identification and not imposing labels or terms. We welcome all gender identities and sexual orientations. We are steadfast in our commitment to standing with and as people; people of all races, ethnicities, immigration statuses, religions, genders, sexual orientations, socioeconomic statuses, ages, education levels, abilities, and sizes.

Board of Directors
M. SOPHIA AGUIRRE, Ph.D., CGP, FAGPA
Co-Chair
Sophia is a Licensed Psychologist and Certified Group Psychotherapist in private practice in Atlanta. She specializes working with Latinx and People of Color. Her clinical specialties include trauma recovery, race-based stress and trauma, relational struggles, identity concerns (ethnic identity, gender identity, & sexual diversity), group therapy, and working with perfectionism and high achieving professionals. She provides individual and group therapy to adults. Sophia has a personal and professional passion for racial and social justice advocacy; she serves as the Chair of the Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee of the Georgia Psychological Association, and the Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force of American Group Psychotherapy Association.
ECKART WERTHER, Ph.D., LCSW
Co-Chair
Eckart is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at a local university. He holds dual licensure in the state of Georgia as a Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Eckart has extensive experience in a variety of applied clinical settings and has worked with linguistically and culturally diverse populations throughout his career. His areas of specialty and interests include: Professional Burnout, multicultural competency and ethics with underserved populations, stress, depression, anxiety disorders, and relational issues.
LUCERO MORSE, LPC NCC
Board Member
Lucero holds a M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. She is a Registered Play Therapist, she is also certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy, and she is working towards her certification in EMDR. Lucero has an extensive trajectory of volunteer work in the Latinx Community in Atlanta; she was one of the founding members of Sanando Mental Health Professionals, and she is part of La Red Global MX founded by the Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior. She's passionate to advocate for children, especially in the Latinx community and she believes that helping the children's parents heal, would help the child developing as a whole.
EDURNE CHOPEITIA, MA, MBA, LPC, NBCC
Board Member
Edurne holds an MBA and a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In Uruguay, she is a Licensed Psychologist, in the US, she is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has experience as therapist, perinatal educator, parenting coach, photographer, and translator. Currently, she serves on the Boards of Sanando Mental Health Professionals and the Atlanta Psychoanalytic Society. Edurne offers psychotherapy (brief and long-term), consultation, and supportive/coaching services for all people, all genders, and all relationships. She trusts in science, research, and creativity to understand patterns and make sense of the person’s relationships, use of technology, social and cultural context, intimacies, sexuality, language, and dreams.
AMELIA TURRUBIATES, LPC, NCC, MFT-C
Board Member
Amelia is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia and a Licensed Psychologist in Mexico. She is Certified as a Marriage and Family Therapist. She is in the certification process for Sand Tray Play Therapy and Forensic Mental Health Evaluator. Amelia has a vast experience working with adults, couples, and minors. In her private practice, she provides a supportive environment where issues can be discussed openly, objectively, safely, and nonjudgmentally. She has worked in settings that include in home, community, outpatient, residential, schools, juvenile detention centers, state agencies, and non-profit organizations. Trauma, depression, anxiety, stress, anger, and relationships are common topics for treatment in her office. Amelia’s goal is to empower clients to best ensure their success.
